Help Moms Build a Strong Foundation for Their Future

  • 81% of solo parents in the United States are single mothers. 30% of all single mothers live in poverty.
  • 13.9% of single mothers haven’t completed high school. 65.7% don’t have a college degree.
  • Food costs have risen 98% in the State of Colorado since 2001. Median earnings have increased 64%.
  • A single parent with one preschooler needs to earn $29.80/hour ($62/937) working full-time to be self-sufficient in Weld County.
  • The self-sufficiency standard for a single mother with one preschooler and one school-age child in Weld County is $75,115/year, 326% of the federal poverty standard.

Maintaining economic self-sufficiency in Colorado is a trial for many. The challenge is even greater for single moms, especially those whose lives have been upended by domestic violence, addiction, and/or homelessness. Especially those who need a new beginning.

At the Genesis Project of Northern Colorado, families in our program live in one of our fully furnished apartments and while developing a strong foundation on which to build future success. Through counseling, family advocacy, spiritual formation, and life skills classes, single moms progress through three phases that empower them to develop skills, take action, and launch into independence. We provide wholistic care and housing for single mothers and their children for $200 per month, which allows moms flexibility to take classes and explore opportunities in sustainable career fields.

When you give to Genesis, you help provide a safe home for vulnerable women and their children. Your donations provide for basic needs like shelter and electricity and allow women to chart a course for future success.
